PLA Marine Corps
Under the Command of Navy's South Fleet.
PLA marine corps, brigade size 5000-6000 personnel. Paul Godwin The first PLA marines divisions was established in 1953, but was reorganized into other units in 1957 (disbanded). In 1979 the PLA Marine First Brigade was established on Hainan Island. The Marines were formally introduced as a branch of the navy in the 1985-86 reorganization.
PLA marine are composed of infantry, artillery, armor, engineering, communication, anti-chemical and amphibious scouts units.Armed with amphibious tanks, and APC, light Self-propelled guns, anti-tank missiles, armed helicopters, landing craft, amphibious assault ships, submarines and hovercraft.

As the standard training, they were drop to remote island for 7 days with 0.7 kilo of rice, one oz of salt, one box of match and one can of water. They have to eat live snake, drink urine and eat grass root.

It has 2 tank battalions (Type-63A amphibious tank), 3 mechanized infantry battalions (Type-77II APC), 1 marine battalion, 1 special force battalion, 1 artillery battalion, 1 missile battalion (HJ-73, HJ-8 ATGW and HN-5 SAM), 1 engineering/anti-chemical warfare battalion, 1 communications battalion, 1 reconnaissance company, and 1 frogman platoon.
It is equipped with the new Type-63A amphibious tank with a 105mm gun (PLAdaily 6-12-02)

Was 164 Motorized Infantry Division. Transferred to PLAN Marine in 2001
Was Part of 4th Field Army, 49 Army Group during the Civil war.
Received new unit designation in 1948.11 as 219 ID. Joined 55th FA in 1952, renamed 164 ID in 1969.
Reassigned to 41st GA in 1985, transformed as Marine Brigade in 1998, remained under the Army control. Its relationship with 1st marine brigade is unclear.
According to some rather dated information, it has 3 marine
battalions, 1 artillery battalion, 1 missile battalion, 1 engineering/anti-chemical
warfare battalion, 1 reconnaissance company and 1 frogman platoon.

One of the Supply ship is the Hai cang, station in Zhanjing.
The most remote monitor station is 700 Km away, it takes supply ship 8 days to reach it. PLA Marine is one a three months rotation, and some may stay as long as nine months, there is no personally communication of any kind between garrison and family during rotations.
