12 Group Army (83226) Xuzhou

Category B Took part the Korea War. Return back in China in April 1954.

Was Chinese Soviet Army’s 6th Column of the Red Army Soviet, regroup in Nov 1932 as Red Army’s 74th Division. During the Anti-Japanese war, it was a member of the 8th Route army, 129 division’s Eastern Advanced Column, active with 129th division’s 386th brigade in the HoBei area. Reformed as 6th Column in Oct 15, 1945, with 16th 17th, and 18th brigade and took part in the epic battle of Xu Zhuang in 1946.

In August 1947, it forced across the Ru river and entered Central China and later took part in the decisive Huai Hai battle. Victory at Huai Hai marked the beginning of the end of the Nationalist. 6th Column became the 12th army in Feb 9th, 1949 as a member of the 2nd field army and its brigade enlarged to become the 34th, 35th and 36th infantry divisions. It took part in “liberation” of Chengdu in Nov 1949.

Without rest, 12th Field Army enter Korean in Dec 1950. During the Korean War, it became part of the 3rd army group, and incorporated the 31st division from 11th army.

Its 31st, and 34th div also took part in defense of the Triangle Hill and Sniper Ridge.

The 2nd armored division has 1 regiment of Type-88B and 2 regiments of Type-59 Andrew KC

Its engineering battalion, 1st company, 5th squad is the honored as “Wang Jie Squad”

Was division downsized to Bgd in 1998.

3rd battalion’s 7th company was honored as “Model Company”.

- 36 (2) Mechanized Infantry Brigade (83235) Xingqi/Jiangsu

Part of 2nd Field Army 11th Army Group during the Civil War.

Was 31 (1) division, renamed to 36 in Dec 1969. Reformed as Brigade in 1998. Equipped with HJ-9 ATGM; designated RDF; was div in version 3.x. Its 106 regiment is a Red army Regiment and Nicked as the Hundred General Regiment.

Its 108th regiment is the Zhu De Guard regiment, this regiment won more “little Tiger citation” then any other units

108th was formed in Jinggang Shan 1928, as Central Military Commission’s guard battalion’s first company. During the Long March it did not suffered any casualties and consider a miracle. Award the motto “Red Star Model Police Company” Also received awards such as the “Military Training Company” by NanJing MR. Received Unit Citation first class twice, second class six times, and Third Class nine times.

the famous Ben Fei Lu, which perform demonstration for foreign visitors.

Received new unit designation in 1949.2. Jointed 12th GA in 1985, downsized as Brigade in 1999.

The brigade won is the name Ben Fei from the battle of BenFei of March 1948 under the command of Xu Xianqian, the 23th and 24th Brigdes (179's old number) break into city and won the battle at a price of 415 dead and 1899 wounded, including their commanding officer Wang Yongguan.

Currently, there is a film based on the history of 179 brigade being made to honor the fallen. More history of Ben Fei brigade can be found at PLAdaily's web site 4-29-2002.

Category A. Took part the Jinmen, and Mazu artillery exchange with KMT force in 1958. Also took part in the “liberation first” military exercise in 1996 during the Taiwan election. Its 35mm AAA was the 15th squadron in the Oct 1, 1999 parade.
