Fu Quanyou, the currently PLA chief of staff served 35 years with the 1 GA.

Was 2nd Red army regiment formed by He Long of 1930 in Hunan, Hubei area, Took part in the Long March Reform as 8th Route Army’s 120th division 358th brigade during the Anti-Japanese war, an honored formation. Part of North-West field army’s 1st and 3rd column during the Chinese Civil war. In Feb 1st of 1947, the 1st column reformed as 1st army, with three brigades, the 358th, 1st independent, and the 7th.

It took part in the ShanZhong, Fumei, Longdong battles, in addition to “liberate” QingHai.

In the 1952 generally disarmament of PLA, the 1st army and the 3rd army combined but retain the name 1st army. The 1st and 3rd division were combined as 1st division, the 2nd and 8th division were combined as 2nd division, 7th and 9th division were combined as 3rd division. Enter Korea in Dec, 1952, return in 1958

Under the command of General Fu Quanyou, elements of 1st GA took part in second Sin-Vietnam war, Lao Shen Campaign.

Giving the fact that the 10th armored division is part of the 1st GA and is closer to Taiwan, this division has received much attention. Of the 3 armored regiments, 1 is equipped with Type-88B MBT/Type-86A AFV, 1 is equipped with Type-63A amphibious tank/Type-63C APC, and 1 is equipped with Type-63 amphibious tank/Type-77II APC. This is the only "mixed" armored division in the PLA.

Not much is known about the artillery and the AAA regiment of this division.

1st armored regiment, 2nd and 3rd mechanized infantry regiments

Part of 1st Field Army, 1st Army Group, 1st Div and 3rd Div during the civil war. 1st Div and 3rd combined to form the 1st Div.

Amphibious capability, 2nd and 3rd regiment are honored formations, the 1st regiment’s sixth company is the famous “Elite of the Elite” “Hard Bone Six Company”, 2nd regiment honored as “Flood fighting Model Regiment”. 2nd regiment’s 9th company honored as “Strong Defense Hero company”. 3rd regiment’s 7th company as “Sharp Knife 7th Company”

The 1st mechanized division has the 1st armored regiment (Type-63A amphibious tank and Type-77B APC), and the 2nd and the 3rd mechanized infantry regiments (Type-63C APC). The artillery regiment of this division has received Type-89 122-mm SPG and Type-89 122-mm MRL systems.

Old 7th and 9th division were combined as 7th heavy Division, and renamed 3rd division in 1952. Converted Brigade in 1998, Amphibious capability,

The 3rd motorized brigade has 1 tank battalion of 40 Type-63A amphibious tank and 1 AD battalion

- 9 Artillery Division at (83318) Wu

The 9th artillery division has 1 regiment each of Type-81 122-mm MRL, Type-59I 130-mm gun, Type-66 152-mm gun-howitzer and Type-83 152-mm SPG.
