The 6th armor was created in Sept 1968 by combined tank troops and arty force. Converted into Digital Armored Division/China Window Armor Division* in 1998 with 322 tanks, at lease one battalion of type 98 MBT “Strateypag May 16 2001”
According to offical report. It has three armored regts, a total of 8000 plus men, in addition to equippment listed below, it alos has twin 37mm SP AAA gun. and 152 SPH
Anderw KC Stated:
All of 3 armored regiments of the 6th armored division (21st, 22nd, 23rd) have Type-86A (WZ501) AFVs in their armored infantry battalion.
It has about 8,000 personnel, with the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd armored regiments, SP artillery regiment, and AAA regiment.
The 21st armored regiment is equipped with Type-98A and Type-96 MBTs, while the other 2 armored regiments are equipped with Type-88B MBTs. Type-86A AFVs are used in all 3 regiments. I believe the former Type-88Bs of the 21st regiment have been transferred to the 2nd armored division.
The SP artillery regiment apparently has Type-83 152-mm SPG and Type-89 122-mm SP MRL. There should be an AAA battalion in this regiment as well. I have seen a picture of Type-63 APC mounted 25-mm SP AAA system. Given the fact that 25-mm AAA is equipped at the regiment level - would this system be found in this regiment?
The AAA regiment apparently was the 1st PLA regiment to be equipped with Type-88 37-mm SP AAAs.
As into the future, I believe the 21st regiment will be fully equipped with Type-98A MBT, while the 22nd and 23rd regiments will be fully equipped with Type-96 MBT. The current Type-88Bs will all be transferred to the 2nd armored division.
its artillery regiment’s has Type 89 120mm SPATG
