Type 073 I/II/III:
The LSM design models that have been in service with the Chinese military are the Type 073, Type 074, and Type 079. Type 073 first entered service in 1966 but was decommissioned after frequent mechanical failures and hull vibrations. Type 73II proved to be another failure with only four examples built through 1979, and all since decommissioned. 708 Research Institute finally gave up the 073 family after the sole example of type 73III was completed in 1987.

There is very limited information from Chinese sources regarding this class besides one photo on the China State Shipbuilding Corp’s website. Jane’s stated the first example was completed in Wuhan in 1995 with one sale to Sri Lanka. It could be an updated Type 79 model
