The main gate of the historical Huang Pu Military Academy. The academy was build by the founding father of modern China, Dr. Sun Yet-Sen, for the purpose of building a modern military for China. This main gate in the photo is actually a reproduction in 1992. The original main gate and much of the site were bombed to smatterings by Japanese bombers during the early days of the Japanese invasion in World War II. Ironically, by then the actual military academy already had been moved to Nanjing for years. The site was left as a memorial to Dr. Sun's achievement; just like it's today.
