The Huang Pu Shipyard
A Photo Essay

by Timothy Yan

The 561 Shantou, a Jianghu V class frigate, is doing a massive refitting. All its outdated weaponry and sensors were striped from the ship. It's highly likely that the 561 will be converted into a shore-bombardment ship like the 516's refit earlier. The weaponry after the conversion will be two new twin-mounted 100mm turrets based on the licensed Creusot-Loire Compact design and five new 122mm stabilized multiple rocket launcher systems with 50 tubes each.

The refitting 837 is a Dinghai class fleet tug. The 1500 tons vessel is designed to be use for heavy towing and recovery operation under combat condition. The 837 was commissioned in the late 1970s.
