The Huang Pu Shipyard
A Photo Essay

by Timothy Yan

That looks a Chinese Maritime Police patrol boat on the dry dock. The Huang Pu Shipyard refits other government ships in additional to military vessels.

A late model Jianghu class frigate refitting in one of Huang Pu Shipyard's dry dock. It appears to be also a Jianghu V from the look of the "Y" shaped exhaust stack and the twin mounted 37mm close-in AA turrets. The Jianghu V uses the older obsolescent C601 anti-ship missile as it's main armament instead of the more modern C801 like on the Jianghu III. It's probably a cost cutting measure. Without much scaffoldings on it, the work is just started or about to be done.
