The Huang Pu Shipyard
A Photo Essay

by Timothy Yan

The Pearl River is the third largest river in China. It's the main artery that fuels the economic boom of Southern China. The Pearl River Delta which includes major Chinese cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macau, is the richest region in China.

In the middle of the river, the water changes back to its more natural color without all the rust run-off and fuel leaks from ships that dock at the shores. Interestingly, those ships in the photo are anchored in the middle of the river and away from the overcrowded shores.

East shore of the Pearl River is fill with cargo loading docks and shipyards. Most of the cargos that go into or out of Southern China, go through ports in Guangzhou and the rest of the Pearl River Delta.
