Type 67 GPMG Variants:

All Type 67 variants share the same basic design and have similar performance. Most of the improvements are minor fixes and for weight reduction. The same 13 lb tripod is used by all versions of the Type 67.

Type 67: The initial production model. It weighs 28.5 lb due to the use of many milled components. The fixed folding bipod is mounted under the gas piston tube.

Type 67-I: Improvements in manufacturing process led to the reduced weight to 25 lb. The fixed folding bipod has been replaced by a clip-on folding bipod on the barrel. This is the mass production version and the most common Type 67 variant.

Type 67-II: The orange color plastic pistol grip replaces the older wooden part. A further weight reduction to 23 lb by using a lighter barrel. Two mounting holes added to the left side of the receiver for mounting optical sights or night vision scope. Many of the older models were converted to this standard.

Type 67-IIC: The final production model of the Type 67. Elimination of the air defense front sight mount attachment points at the front of the receiver. A new rear signt that omitted the air defense rear sight portion on the top. Aviablity of new barrel with a sloted muzzle break.

Deployment:

The Type 67 GPMG crew consist of a gunner, assistant gunner and one or two ammo beariers. The gunner carries and operates the Type 67. The assistant gunner responsible for carrying the tripod, the spare barrel and other extra accessories. The ammo bearier's duty is not only carries the additional ammo but also provides flank security for the gun team. Type 67 GPMG sections are normally a part of the weapon company in each PLA infantry battalion. The PLAAF's 15th Ariborne Corp also uses the Type 67 GPMG.
