Type 88C Main Battle Tank: A Photo Essay
by Timothy Yan

With the price starting at 1 million US$ a copy, the Type 88C is a bargain compares to other MBTs. However, weights at 42 tons and even with modular composite armors, the Type 88C just doesn't has the same level of protection as Western MBTs that are 20+ tons heavier. By adding an Explosive Reactive Armor array, a more powerful engine, a thermal sight equipped fire control system and the usage of Depleted Uranium ammo, which all of those are producing by China currently, the Type 88C MBT would still be a formidable opponent on the battlefield.
Update 11/2003:
The PLA offical designation for the Type 88C is Type 96 Main Battle Tank
according to the Tank Museum on my visit in 2002.
