The Type 88C MBT uses a conventional layout with the engine compartment in the rear. The engine inside should be the 730hp one that carries over from the Type 80 MBT family. This engine is probably the result of the continuous development of the original water-cooled V12 diesel engine that founds in the Type 59 (T-54/55). Since China is the largest licensed producer of German commercial diesel engines in the world, this engine is most likely a German design.
