The Type 88C is the latest member of the Type 85 MBT family. The Type 85 MBT family was a continue development of the earlier Type 80 MBT family. While it still retains some Russian tank design influence, the Type 80 MBT family is considered as the 1st generation of Chinese tanks that are of indigenously design. The Type 85 MBT family is considered as the 2nd generation of indigenously designed Chinese tanks and with even farther departure from Russian designs. We will go over those design differences in the following pages.
