The largest engagement for those armored artillery divisions was the siege of Tianjin in January 14, 1949, where all eight armored artillery divisions were used. After the battle, the eight mobile artillery divisions were reorganized into 4 artillery divisions and the remaining operational tanks and armored vehicles were placed together and formed the Tank Force as part of the Special Army.
